Sin Chao Gardens - 新潮園

Embark on a culinary journey to Sin Chao Gardens, nestled along the vibrant River Valley Road, and immerse yourself in the delightful world of traditional Teo Chew cuisine. This hidden gem has always been a personal favourite of mine for a while now, offering a satisfying blend of authenticity and reasonable prices.

During our recent lunch outing, we indulged in their signature Teo Chew Braised combination platter, featuring an array of succulent delights such as braised duck, pork belly, pig ears and skins, beancurd, and eggs. The tender meats and flavourful sauce paired exquisitely with both plain rice and porridge, creating a harmonious symphony of taste.

While I usually opt for the Teo Chew steamed pomfret, this time we decided to try the steamed grey mullet ("Or Her"), which arrived beautifully encased in a whole lotus leaf along with fish roe. The simplicity of the dish allowed the freshness of the fish to shine through, and when dipped in the tangy tau cheo (fermented soy bean paste), it elevated the flavours to new heights. We also had the steamed fish cake, another simple dish showcasing the Teo Chew technique at its finest. The stir-fried bitter gourd with egg offered a humble yet delightful combination of flavours.

To conclude our satisfying lunch, we indulged in the savoury delight of Cai Poh Kway Teow. The medley of textures and flavours from the preserved radish and kailan bits with the silky flat rice noodle was truly a treat for the palate. Sin Chao Gardens continues to captivate with its dedication to preserving the essence of Teo Chew cuisine.

Whether you are a Teo Chew food enthusiast or simply seeking a memorable dining experience, a visit to Sin Chao Gardens is highly recommended. Immerse yourself in the rich culinary traditions and savour the authentic flavours that this hidden gem has to offer.
