OO White Coffee kopitiam
Early Sunday morning in Penang, we found ourselves standing in line at the bustling OO White Coffee kopitiam at Lebuh Carnarvona, favourite breakfast haunt suggested by a local friend. The queue snaked outside, testament to its popularity. Just a stone-throw away, there was a newly opened air-conditioned counterpart (OO White Coffee Plus) but we chose to stick with the charm of the old, classic kopitiam instead.
Inside, there were 6 individual hawker stalls, a one-stop shop for all things breakfast. We tucked into the fragrant old-school Wonton Mee, a hearty bowl of their famous Beef Kway Teow soup, creamy White Curry Mee, a satisfying Chinese Nasi Lemak, and the quintessential kaya butter toast and Polo bun paired with their smooth, robust white coffee. The flavours spoke of heritage and comfort, each bite connecting us to the local culture.
Popular Tiger Char Kway Teow and the oyster omelette were very tempting, but alas we skipped them, deeming them a bit too indulgent for breakfast given the already heavy feast. Still, the offerings were more than enough to keep us happy and full.
OO White Coffee is truly a Georgetown gem with great food, buzzing atmosphere, and a taste of authentic Penang. If you are here, don’t miss it!
