Greece 2026 - Day 8, Naxos

Today was also the final full day for the Yeos before they returned to Athens and eventually home.

Taverna Paradiso, Naxos

It was one of those afternoons that quietly reminds you what holidays are really about.

Doukato, Naxos

Our final evening in Naxos ended exactly the way a Greek island holiday should.

Greece 2026 - Day 7, Naxos

On paper, this should have been the worst day of our Naxos trip. In reality, it turned out to be one of the most memorable.

Taverna Platanos, Naxos

Taverna Platanos is not a restaurant that tries to impress with modern techniques or fancy presentations. What it offers is generous portions, honest cooking, warm hospitality and a sense of place.

Greece 2026 - Day 6, Naxos

Naxos, Greece

Weather: The day began with sunshine and patches of blue sky over Santorini. Conditions remained pleasant during the ferry crossing to Naxos, although strong winds became increasingly noticeable upon arrival. Clouds gradually built up during the afternoon, creating dramatic skies over the island. A short evening shower passed through during dinner, followed by cooler temperatures and a refreshing breeze for the rest of the night.

The morning began with a final look across the caldera from Firostefani before we checked out of Agali and made our way down to Thira Port for the ferry to Naxos. The weather looked promising, though dark clouds lingered in the distance as if Santorini was reluctant to let us leave.

While waiting for our SeaJets ferry, we settled into a small café called The Dock for breakfast. The coffee arrived quickly but the food took its own sweet time. With only one chef working in the tiny kitchen, orders were piling up.

The difference in pricing compared to Santorini was immediately noticeable.

Greece 2026 - Day 5, Santorini

1 May 2026
Santorini, Greece

Weather: Strong winds, partially cloudy and gloomy skies. Sunny at times. Passing shower in the evening.

The day started the way most good days do, with coffee and pies at our favourite Picolo before setting off on what was supposedly a three hour hike from Fira to Oia. Like many things in life, the estimate proved wildly optimistic.

Our first major stop was Skaros Rock. What looked like a quick detour turned into a two hour adventure. The dramatic cliffs, endless caldera views and a hidden church tucked into the rock face kept drawing us deeper in. Every corner seemed to demand another photograph. By the time we finally left, we realised we had only made it as far as Imerovigli.

A collective search for toilets led us to Dear Elie Café, a decision that turned out to be one of the smartest of the day. Coffee became brunch, water bottles were refilled, and morale was restored. Beyond that point there would be no facilities for another

Aris Restaurant, Santorini

It was a lovely way to end a long day of hiking from Fira to Oia and back, with good food, good company and one of the most beautiful dining views in Santorini.

Greece 2026 - Day 4, Santorini

Sailing from the north of Santorini all the way south was honestly one of the highlights of the entire Greece trip for many of us.

Spiridakos Cruise, Santorini

There was something strangely satisfying about having a barbecue lunch in the middle of the Aegean Sea while Mambo Jambo music blasted across our private catamaran.
